Bathroom Decoration and Design For the Elderly

There are three elements in a Western full bathroom that will always be there - the sink, the bathtub and the toilet.

I specify that you'll find these in Western bathrooms because Eastern bathrooms are designed differently. The Japanese, for example, would never place the toilet in the same room with the bath. They also don't bathe in the bath itself. The bath is used for relaxation at the end of a long day - one showers off any dirt and grime before climbing into the nice hot bath for a long soak. The Japanese also don't waste money keeping their household water hot at all times, on the off-chance it's needed. Rather, they heat their water on-demand, possessing all kinds of technological marvels that heat the water quite quickly, and to precisely the desired technology.

But let's get back to the Western bathroom.

As the smallest room in the house, the bathroom has to have both form and function. The easiest way to decorate the bathroom attractively is to have matching bath towels and washcloths. If the walls are painted the same shade as the towels, that's an added bonus.

Most accidents in the home take place in the bathroom, as the tub and the floor can become quite slippery on occasion. Prevention is better than cure, as the old cliche has it, so make sure you have some non-slip strips in the bathtub - and make sure you purchase the highest quality that are easy to clean and don't get stained.

Non-skid rugs in front of the tub should also be considered - if they are in the same shade as the towels, the washcloths and the walls, then you're really in business!

Bathrooms for the Elderly or Mobility Impaired As we grow older, we find that we can't move as easily as we used to. This time comes to everyone, unfortunately. Fortunately, there are plenty of products on the market to help make it easier for the elderly or mobility-impaired individual.

Angled grab bars make it easier for people to get into and out of the tub. It's also possible to get safety rails attached to the tub. If the individual simply can't get into - or out of - the tub, there are shower chairs so that they can sit and take a shower with no problems. Long-handled brushes and other implements make bathing easier.

Depending on the need, it's possible to get toilet seats raised from two inches to five inches, to make it easier for individuals to stand up.

Indeed, in today's technological world, there is a tool to fill every need - as long as you know it exists.

Make Your Own Fabric Room Divider

The primary purpose of room dividers is to define spaces. But designers have taken a step further by creating dividers that are not only functional but also decorative. And fabric room dividers are no exception.

Fabric dividers are most versatile and easiest to make. For the rugged and distressed look, you can use thicker fabrics, while soft, silky fabrics would give a formal look. Fabrics can easily be removed for cleaning, and can be mixed and matched, depending on the season or degree of privacy that you wish to obtain. Sheer fabrics can be used for minimal privacy, while thicker types like canvass can be used for an opaque effect.

The simplest fabric divider that you can make is the curtain type. With suspended curtain rods and a piece of cloth, you can have an instant divider. Instead of curtain rods, a track may be mounted on the ceiling. The cloth can then be pulled to open up the space, and closed again when privacy is needed. As a variation of the curtain type, you can also use PVC pipes as curtain rods. But instead of suspending them from the ceiling, the pipes can be made to stand and can be moved around and dismantled if not in use. With a few pipes and connectors, the divider that you create can actually go a long way.

You can also make folding screen dividers. You can use 3 or 4 panels, depending on the space that you wish to cover or divide. It can be of any size or height that you want. Cover the screen with the fabric that you want. The panels can be stand-alone pieces, or you can connect them with hinges. If you use canvass or other fabric with solid color, you can do some artwork on the fabric. Using acrylic paint, other colored fabrics, colored stones and beads. Create designs that would match the room owner's personality.

Instead of screen, you can also use wood panels. Assemble the wood frame. Cut fabric of the same size as the frames, and then staple them onto the frame. Glue some ribbon on the edges of the frames to cover the edges of fabric. With hinges, connect the panels together to form an accordion-type divider.

Fabric room dividers are easy to make. Be bold in trying new designs and colors. These dividers would make interesting pieces of décor for your home. Just make sure that they match with theme of the room where it will be placed. With these fun ideas, you can make variations and create your personal divider.

Many people go to great lengths to brighten up each room in their house, and it can cost a small fortune if you're determined to give your home that much-needed facelift. From ripping up carpets to stripping walls, it all seems like a lot of work when there are easier options out there. That's why more people are turning to artificial flower arrangements to make an impression in their home and get rid of the tired, dowdy and dated image it has. Artificial flower arrangements can be bought in any colour and put anywhere in the home. Size isn't an issue because they are available in all different sizes to start with. From putting them in a window so the passers-by can see a stunning reflection, to setting your flowers on a coffee table in the centre of a room, there are many different ways that you can make an impression with artificial flowers.

Colour Tips:

Choose red artificial flowers for a bold statement in a room. The bold red colour can hide a multitude of sins and prevent the eye from being drawn to shabby carpets and tatty couches.

Decorating With Plants Brings a Vital Presence to Any Room Setting

Decorating with plants that are healthy will lift the mood and attract energy into the home and is an easy way to enhance your rooms while still expressing your style. They are available in so many different shapes, sizes and colors there is bound to be a plant that suits your decor.

Balance and scale are important to consider when placing your plants in a room and groupings will offer the greatest impact.

Placing small trees like a Dracaena or a weeping fig in your empty corners will keep "chi" (the good energy) cycling smoothly around your space. Vary the height of your plants for the most pleasing effect on a long wall and to break up the space.

In a grouping of live plants use ones with similar lighting and watering requirements to make things simpler for their watering schedule.

If you need to adjust the height of one of the plants, place on a decorative bench or stool, and adding "up" lighting will add drama and bring out even more of their beauty.

Groupings of plants can make a colorful arrangement for the dining table too. Place several blooming foliage in a single container, basket or trunk keeping the watering needs of the plants the same.

Whichever container you choose line it with heavy plastic and raise the bottoms of any that may be too deep with rocks so the plants are sure to be seen. Cover with Spanish moss or small pebbles for a finished look that is "natural."

Your plants can be placed in plastic containers that are lightweight, durable and inexpensive and mimic everything from woven wicker to baked clay, so you are sure to find a suitable container decorating with plants that will harmonize with your style of decor.

Stick an unappealing container into another more exquisite one. Just be sure the plant has enough room for the roots to grow, and has holes in the bottom for proper drainage.

Tall or top heavy trees need to be placed in a container that has a wide base to minimize the chance of it toppling over.

Decorating with plants is good for your interior because they take in CO2 and releases clean pure oxygen into the air, filtering dust particles. Some house plants absorb certain air toxins and lessen the effects of electromagnetic stress emitted from televisions and other electrical equipment.

Bathroom Tile Design Ideas For Your Small Bathroom Remodeling Project

Simple bathroom tile design ideas

One of the most difficult decisions that face you when you are remodeling your bathroom is the design of the ceramic tiles. Not only do you need to decide on the color and patterns on the tiles but you also have to consider how much of your bathroom you're going to cover with ceramic. There are so many different variations of all this that it can get pretty overwhelming. I was recently faced with this problem with my own small bathroom remodel and I'm going to tell you exactly how I solved it.

Bathroom ceramic tile coverage

Ceramic tiles vary considerably in price and it's easy to limit the coverage in your bathroom if you think that it's going to be too expensive. I shopped around for tiles a lot and found a very reasonably priced line of ceramic tiles that were very similar to a lot of very expensive ceramic tiles that I'd seen. It definitely pays to spend time looking for the right tiles at the right price.

Because the ceramic tiles that I'd found were a good price I was able to afford to tile all the walls of my small bathroom from floor to ceiling which is what I'd set my heart on. I saved a little by not tiling the wall behind the bathtub that wasn't going to be seen. I'd looked at a lot of bathrooms by then and I knew that bathrooms that are tiled 100% look much nicer than those that aren't.

Ceramic tile design for small bathrooms

I have a small bathroom and not only is there a lack of space but little bathrooms can also feel small and cramped if you get the design wrong. The trick is to give your bathroom a light airy feeling. Plenty of light helps and so does a mirror or two on the walls. Choosing a light colored ceramic tile was the key to opening up my small bathroom because it reflects the available light and gives the impression that the room is larger than it really is.

Mosaic bathroom tile design

My first ceramic bathroom tile design idea was to use a bright white smooth tile throughout. This would have lightened up the room but I had the feeling that this would be overdoing it a bit so I looked at ways that I could break it up a little while keeping the same light and airy feel to the bathroom.

I eventually found a mosaic tile design that came in several pastel colors. The tiles were normal size so they were just as easy to fix to the wall but the surface of the tiles look like small rectangles raised a little from the surface to give a mosaic look.

I chose 2 colors, white and a light sky blue pattern and used about one third blue and two thirds white. The blue tiles were set at the lower part of the walls and look a little like the sea. This was a very simple but effective design.

Bathroom shower tile design

You don't have to stick with the same arrangement of ceramic tiles in the shower but it's good to use the same colors and stick to the same theme. I used the blue tiles to form a triangle with the peak in the corner of my shower. This has the effect of drawing you into the shower and making it look more inviting.

I hope that you enjoyed this article and maybe I've given you a few ideas for your bathroom tile design and remodel.

Small Changes - Big Difference

One of my favorite ways to get ideas for decorating my house is to flip through magazines. Also, I enjoy going to home shows and take notes of good ideas. So many of the ideas can be costly, but it's fairly easy to adapt them into a low-cost solution.

Here are some inexpensive ideas that are quick and easy changes:

1. Put up curtains. These can really pull a room together.

2. Use some artwork your kids have created. Buy an inexpensive frame and pop it in. Your kids will be so proud, and so will you!

3. Painting is always an inexpensive way to spruce up a room. Think before you buy. Some stores even have little sample bottles of paint colors that you can buy and try out before buying a gallon.

4. Rearranging furniture can also bring new life to a room. Use your imagination and give it a try. You can always move it back if it doesn't work.

5. If you have a special collection (even from years ago) bring it out of the attic, blow off the dust, and display a few pieces. It could be a conversation piece.

6. Use tablecloths. You can usually buy these very inexpensively, or even make your own. It's amazing what a difference walking into a room with a table cloths, placemats, and a simple centerpiece can make.

7. Have a picture wall. Display family and friends - they'll think it's great & so will you!

I shied away from decorating for years because I thought I didn't have the budget. I finally realized that one doesn't need to hire an interior decorator to have a nicely decorated home.

Have fun & enjoy the process!

Small Basement, Big Style - How To Decorate Your Small Basement

When it comes to family entertainment there's no substitute for your basement so it's no wonder you want it to have terrific decorating style. But it can be difficult to make small areas look big on style. Here are some tips for decorating a small basement to have a big impact.

You need to make sure to decorate in keeping with the size of your space. If your basement is cluttered, this will tend to make it seem smaller so you ought to stay away from styles that have a lot of knick knacks.

Another consideration for decorating a small basement is to be mindful of where the furniture is going to be in the room. If you want a design which looks inviting plus enhances your life, think about employing the ideas of Feng Shui when decorating your basement. Making certain doorways are clear of furniture should help make it seem more spacious. Plus, if you can focus the eye on the larger pieces like a big TV or entertainment unit, it may help the room seem more spacious.

Think of furniture and accessories you may include in your room design which will help to maximize space in the basement. A sharp modern or Zen like interior design style can work good since it will be less cluttered hence making the room appear more spacious. No matter what you go with, don't forget to be positive you like it, this is a great space for family games and entertainment.

Try to keep your accessories and furniture in the small size range. One means to maximize space is to have a couch with chair, as opposed to big sectional which will give the illusion of more space but still allow plenty of seating. However you don't have to stick with all small items in your basement, selecting some larger pieces will add unique charm to the room, so in combination with the minimal seating, match it with a big screen TV- this can add interest and also make the room appear larger also.

Pick out the color palette for the basement carefully for certain colors can help make it look more open. You've possibly heard that light colors make a room look less small and dark colors make it appear smaller, but it's really a bit more involved than that. You can dispense with that boring white and make use of a monochromatic color palette, or stick to colors which have the same intensity and this will not make the room appear cramped. You can try a moss green decorating theme, or if you want more color choose purple, blue and green that all have the same intensity and tone. Painting one wall a deep color will make it appear further away, therefore, adding depth and unique appeal. A gray-blue hue is wonderful for decorative appeal and for also making the walls appear to recede, Therefore making the room appear larger. If you think gray will be too bland, you can essentially apply any cool color like green or purple to produce the same feeling.

Given you use certain well known approaches decorating a small basement can be easy. Providing a little bit of elbow grease combined with creativity can help change even the tiniest room into a designer showplace.

Making A Smaller Space Feel Big

If you live in New York, you know the wisdom of making a smaller space feel bigger. Where real estate properties are at a high premium and apartments are the living space of choice, you have to figure out how to get the most for your dollar. The basic tricks to expanding the feel of a small room are color and lighting. Anything that brings natural light in and connects the room to the great outdoors will make it feel airier. To give that light room to roam and bounce around, choose accessories and furnishings that bounce light. Colors that are light and pale will keep the room from having a claustrophobic feel to it. Think vertical instead of horizontal to bring the eye up to the ceiling instead of across to the lack of space. Remove clutter and keep things organized while available.

Lighting

If you have a big picture window in the room, this will really add to the dimension of the room. Take full advantage of this by allowing the light to come in with light color drapes. If you are trying to decorate a small bathroom, you can add tube lighting or a skylight. Let that light bounce around a bit with furnishings in light colors and tables with glass tops. Wicker furniture also gives the light room to travel through its crannies. Add a big mirror on one wall to bring the outdoors in and amplify the look of the room.

Colors

Don't set up heavy wallpapers or dark colors in a very small room. These tend to box it in. Instead opt for light color and wallpapers. Paint the trim a whiter shade than the walls to make the room appear bigger. Add touches of color with accents like throw pillows or artwork.

Going Vertical

Think up and not down for a smaller room. Anything that pulls the eye can help the room appear much more spacious. Tall thin bookcases are a good option. Change out your electronic equipment to the thinner taller versions with flat screens and thin speakers. Layer and stagger shelving on the walls to have more storage space while widening the walls. Put down area carpets with diagonal designs to widen the space visually.

Organization

Try to get rid of any clutter in the rooms. If you don't need an item, remove it completely. Less is more in small rooms. Accessories should be kept to a minimum with several but few good pieces. Your furniture should also be organized to keep a free flow of traffic within and around the room. If you can't do this without making the room look tiny, push the furniture against the walls and make the center space large. Speaking of furniture, it should not be too large for the room. Try to buy furniture that is sized for a smaller room to avoid making your entire design layout look cramped. Add storage boxes where needed or take off doors to closets and add decorative boxes as storage units. This can sometimes open a room considerably while adding a touch of design flair.

The Benefits of Wood-Pellet Stoves

Wood-pellet stoves were invented in the 1980's and have gained in popularity in the last few years. These are small electric stoves that burn small pieces of recycled sawdust that are compressed into pellets. There are a number of advantages to using wood-pellet stoves. They are extremely efficient, produce very little waste, and use inexpensive fuel.

Wood-pellet stoves are fueled by tightly compressed pieces of sawdust. They have complicated machinery that adds new pellets to the fire when more fuel is needed. The user merely has to add the pellets to the hopper, and the mechanical auger moves pellets to the fire as needed.

Wood-pellet stoves have average efficiency ratings of 80- to 85-percent. They heat more efficiently than bigger and more expensive gas heaters. These stoves have negative pressure systems that propel the hot air they produced outward, making the heat go farther than it would naturally. The pellets are burned so completely that they hardly give off any smoke, meaning that it is not necessary to build a large chimney to channel smoke out of the home. Wood-pellet stoves only need a small pipe leading outside to dispose of excess smoke.

Since wood stoves are so efficient, they hardly produce any waste. An entire 40-pound bag of pellets produces less than a cup of ashes. People can use a wood pellet stove for months without having to empty the ashes.

The pellets used as fuel are made of sawdust from lumberyards and wood mills. The sawdust is compressed at high temperatures and is not held together by any type of chemicals or glue. A 40-pound bag of pellets sells for less than five dollars, with discounts available for people who buy in bulk.

Wood-pellet stoves are a great alternative to gas or electric heating systems. They are economical and can produce enough heat to warm an entire house.

Steps To Creating Storage Space In Your Home

Creating storage space in your home is essential to making life easier in and around your busy life styles. If your home is limited on storage space, you have two options, which is either custom building or buying pre-made units. A lack of storage space is a major problem in many homes.

Most homes have two few and too small closets. You need clothing storage in at least three areas of your home. You can make more room in your home from the garage to the living room, bedroom, kitchen, and bathrooms. Keep in mind that it's far more cost-effective to build your own storage systems in the home.

It seems that no matter how much storage our homes come equipped with, there is never enough. One of the most important things to understand about storage is that if something's such as; clothing, pot and pans is not easily visible, it's less likely to be used.

Before you start create organization throughout your home, ask each member of the family to itemize their belongings on paper. Chances are you use your living room more than any other area in your home. Make good use of any alcoves or recessed walls by lining them with shelves.

You would find storage space you never knew you had by hanging hooks and rails under cabinets and on doors or walls. For growing children, the best bet is to accommodate their closets as if they were adults. Since they seem to outgrow their clothing every three months, it is unwise to make their storage pint-sized.

Creating Awesome Girls Bedroom

A girls bedroom is a place of peace, serenity and inspiration. For this reason, a lot of things have to be done for this to be achieved. A girls bedroom is one of the most thoughtful rooms you will find. This is because girls are naturally more artistic than their male counterparts. Therefore the room will never disappoint. It really does not matter what the age of the girl is and, all rooms need some extra attention. If you are a parent or a girl who is planning to decorate your bedroom, there are several things that you need to consider so that you can make the girls bedroom the haven that it should be. The first thing you consider is the kind of theme you want in your bedroom. Girls do love to be artistic and, you need to theme your room so that you can ensure that your personality is incorporated. Therefore, you need to ask the girl what she would prefer in this regard. A theme can be anything and, all you have to do is to make sure that you will be happy to see it every night.

Once you have considered this, you can then move on to the next factor. The other thing you need to consider is the decor in regard to the curtains, linen and other things. If you have any dressers that you are attached to, you can add them to become part of your decor. Girls tend to recycle things and this is usually very helpful as they turn old stuff into beautiful and attractive stuff. Girls like to include stuff like picture and magazines in the walls. For this reason you will have to look for all the pictures you like most and add them to the background. The other thing you need to consider is the storage. Girls have a lot of stuff and, it is no secret that the future will also mean lots of other stuff. If you do not want to find yourself always in a mess, you can consider the ways to ensure that you have plenty of space. Also, there are people who have space but never realize it.

Because of poor arrangement, you will not enjoy the room. If you plan to make your space a place or relaxation, you have to have a functional plan where you store your clothes, accessories and other things in an efficient manner. The other thing you can do is to make sure you change the look once in a while. This is because life is dynamic and at certain times, you need to feel a sense of progress. Different styles ensure that you always achieve this. Creating the bedroom of your dreams does not have to be an expensive affair. You can do much of the changes yourself. If you do not have a very good imagination, you can get inspiration from other bedrooms and you can view them online. There is so much to see and, you will not be disappointed about this. Go on and start the work of making your room a safe resting place that you actually like.

Some Small Kitchen Design Tips

If you have a small kitchen to design then the problem of designing a great kitchen boils down to just what you can fit and where. There are many different cabinet designs and surface patterns that can help you provide your small kitchen design with a sense of space.

To create the small but efficient kitchen design, you need to work on three major areas of small kitchen design: storage, lighting, and appliances.

Small kitchens may seem to be a very difficult design challenge, but they can also be functional, beautiful and efficient. Even with a small budget and building restrictions, you can find that there are many options open to you to transform your kitchen into something more ideal for your needs.

To create a more spacious look for your small kitchen design the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) recommends designing more unique storage solutions, mixing natural and ambient lighting, taking advantage of more space saving appliances, and adding personalized touches.

A small kitchen design requires creativity in coming up with storage solutions. Some ideas to try include:

· Putting an island in the center of the kitchen that can provide freestanding storage that is also convenient from any spot in the kitchen.

· Using a galley kitchen design in which the cabinets and appliances line up on either side of a corridor can work out very well for a small kitchen space.

· Today's appliance manufacturers have come up with more compact space-saving appliances make small kitchen design easier, such as refrigerators that are 24 inches deep instead of 30 inches deep, as well as appliances that can be hung underneath cabinets like microwaves.

· Other small kitchen design tricks to create an eating area in the kitchen include using a drop table or a small sized round table with two small chairs that can be tucked into a corner. Or a built-in counter along the wall with chairs to provide an eating nook.

· Another interesting challenge in small kitchen design is creating an illusion of space with under cabinet lighting or under the counter. With the proper type of lighting the kitchen can be made to appear larger and more pleasing.

· The use of light colored cabinets with glass doors.

· Installing deeper counters that can accommodate more appliances and increase work space.

· Flooring tiles can be placed on a diagonal, and in a galley style kitchen hardwood flooring can be run the length of the kitchen.

· For storage you can hang up pots and pans. This is a perfect way to free up cabinet space, and they add a certain charm and character to your small kitchen design. The insides of cabinet doors can be used to hang up everything from utensils, oven mitts, and other miscellaneous items. Pantry storage with units that go all the way to the ceiling with the upper cabinets to provide more space for seldom used items while making the lower cabinets more accessible with rollout shelves, lazy susans, and tilt-out bins.

· Install a large kitchen sink, since larger sinks are considered to be more practical than small sinks when it comes to cleaning pots and pans.

Remember most kitchens are small. When you look in kitchen design magazines you naturally notice that the kitchens featured are large and so you might think your small kitchen in inadequate. But good small kitchen design means being able to create space and incorporating ample storage facilities and being able to fit in all the necessary appliances.

Clever Room Arrangements

How often have you sat in your living room or family room and wondered if there was anything that you can do to make it into a more exciting space? It seems to lack personality, charm, or coziness? The furniture placement is boring and just simply does not work? No one wants to be in that room.

Clever room arrangements can transform a conventional room into something new and different. It can actually shape the space and make it visually more stimulating and conducive to great conversation and warm family gatherings.

Here are some tips to make your room come alive:

1. First, find the focal point in the room. The cornerstone of every arrangement is a focal point. It may be the view, a fireplace, a wall of built-ins, or an armoire.

If there is no focal point, create one. Hang a painting on a wall or make a picturescape out of several pictures. You can use a large breakfront, etagere, or even a television set. You can create it with a beautiful area rug on the floor. The focal point in a room is essential.

2. Determine the traffic flow in the room. People cutting in front of a sofa while you are trying to chat is a no-no. Make sure that electrical cords are not in the "walkways". Keep this in mind when planning the arrangement of furniture.

3. Measure the room and then draw it out on a 1/4 inch grid. Remember to include doorways, windows, built-ins, and any other features that would interfere with arranging the furniture.

4. Make cutouts for your furniture pieces once you have measured those.

5. Play with your cutouts on the drawn floorplan until you get a pleasing arrangement. Remember that it is easier to do this first than shifting furniture around from one end of the room to the other. Keep the focal point in mind as you "play".

6. Place the furnishings so that the focal point is where your eyes should naturally and comfortably be looking. Place the larger seating pieces first as these will be the boldest and most room-shaping articles.

7. Move furniture away from walls to get away from that "waiting-room" look.

8.. Think about placing the furniture on angles if the space in your room allows it. Perhaps making a "V" in front of the fireplace would be exciting. Maybe angling the sofa on a 45 degree angle in the corner would be a great place to start your grouping. Doing so emphasizes the width of a long narrow room.

9. Remember to arrange the furniture to encourage conversation. Make sure that seats are no more than 8 feet apart. Farther than that will result in a need to shout to one another to be heard. Naturally, the seats should face one another for eye contact. Of course, if you want to be anti-social, you can place the seats back to back!

10. Add the smaller or occasional pieces to compliment the larger furniture. Include a mix of larger and smaller pieces. Remove non-essential furnishings to create space. Make sure that some of the pieces are mobile. You can also add furniture (if your room is large enough) to divide a room into activity areas. Breaking a room into two or more groupings can help make it function better.

11. Don't forget about the size and scale of pieces in your room. Lots of small scale pieces in a large room will make the furniture seem miniature and you will feel like you are in a dollhouse.

12. Every seat requires a table within comfortable reach. Coffee tables should be about 18 inches in front of the seating. End tables should be no more than 6 inches away from the arms of a seat.

13. Don't forget about lighting. Add the three types of lighting into your scheme; ambient or general lighting, task lighting (for reading and other tasks) and accent (candles, uplights, spotlights) lighting. Only the combination of all three will make the room feel and function properly.

14. Now you can decorate. Remember to keep the focus on the focal point. Accessorize in "odd" numbers as it is most pleasing to the eye. Make sure that you vary the height in the room to keep it from looking stale and to keep the eye moving. Create a triangle placement with your plants and task lights throughout the room.

15. Think about breaking the rules. Use space creatively. Maybe swapping the dining room and living room spaces makes great sense. Maybe the dining room is a better area for a cozier living room seating arrangement. Just think how cozy it would be eating by a fireplace if you made you living room into a dining room!

Remember, make this a fun project. This is not something you should fear if approached with the right attitude. Be practical, be realistic, be flexible, and most of all...you can forget about perfection, break some rules and think outside the box!

Techniques For Decorating Small Bedrooms

You want your bedroom to be a room for getting away from it all so your decorating style is key. But how can you make a small bedroom be big on style? Lucky for you, there are different tricks you are able to use to make decorating small bedrooms a big success!

First off, be sure to decorate in keeping with the size of your space. A lot of clutter makes even the largest of bedrooms appear cramped, and cluttering up an already small room ought to be avoided.

Use furniture sparingly and select smaller pieces. Making use of a queen or full bed, in place of king size, might make a lot of difference in space, but still allow for a good nights sleep. Regardless you don't have to use all small accessories and furniture in your bedroom, selecting some larger accessories will add appealing charm to the room, so though you might decide to use the smaller bed and bureaus, have a large amount of pillows- it is able to make the room feel larger as well as add interest and appeal.

Another factor to work on when trying to make your small bedroom feel less small is the color palette. A lot of people think that you have got to just use light tones in small rooms, although there is essentially more to it than that. You can have color while still making the bedroom feel bigger by pairing colors that reflect identical intensity, or using a monochromatic color scheme. For a scheme that is more colorful think about bright yellows and oranges that all have an equal tone or to achieve a calm and peaceful interior design style choose a monochromatic decorating theme of warm browns. To add depth, plan for painting an opposing wall a deep color - this makes it seem further away plus adds an enjoyable style. For wall tones, pale shades such as blue gray will create an overall more spacious look as they make the walls appear to recede. But if that sounds overly drab, don't despair cool colors such as greens, blues and purples also recede so you can have your gorgeous shades without making the room appear small sized.

When decorating small bedrooms you must also be aware of things like furniture placement. Making use of the ideas of Feng Shui in your bedroom serves to help bring harmony to your home. Making sure doors are clear of furniture could help make it appear more open. This is sure to also highlight a bigger piece such as a bureau or cheval mirror.

Think of accessories and furniture you might include in your decorating theme that will help to make good use of space in the bedroom. A sleek minimalist style can be best as this de-emphasizes clutter and tends to emphasize space. Seeing as this is your get away room you ought to be certain to choose a design approach you enjoy.

When you try certain tried and true approaches decorating small bedrooms can be easy. So sharpen your imagination and go make your small bedroom seem large on charm!
